Since I was a kid, I have loved technology. My first computer was a Coleco ADAM that I saved up to purchase back in 1983. Also, I was raised in part by our family television. It's needless to say that I was a huge Star Trek fan.
I think that choosing a career in video production was a way of merging those two early influences. Initially, my goal was to be a filmmaker, but I couldn't afford to move to California and there was not much film production going on in Georgia at the time (who knew?).
I graduated from college with a degree in Mass Communications and became a television producer. I produced live news and talk shows. I also created hundreds of commercials. My love of technology continued and I would take every opportunity to investigate innovations in media production. When the Internet came along, the blend of media and technology was a perfect fit, and I began producing online content. I have always strived to make my work informative and engaging, and producing commercials did little to satisfy the need to inspire others. In 2004, I decided to steer my career toward producing content for education. I have never looked back.
In my nearly 20 years of experience working in higher education, I have specialized in creating content that meets the needs of instructors teaching subjects as varied as History and auto repair. In 2020, I earned a master's degree in Instructional Technology.
When conceptualizing a project, I have a list of essential elements that I ensure are part of everything I create. My content must be engaging, it must appeal to various learning styles, it must achieve the outcomes that were intended, and that achievement must be measurable.
Today, I lead a small team of content creators who specialize in producing technical training materials for the faculty and staff of Georgia Gwinnett College. My job is fun and I work with a great group of people, but I am always open to new opportunities.
